God's Sacrificial Love

God loves us and its not just a feeling. His love is not a bunch of empty words. He shows His love for us through His actions. Perhaps the most notable of these actions cost God a great price: the life of His only Son, Jesus Christ. Because we are helpless to save ourselves, God sent Jesus to save us. Jesus saved us from sin and hell by dying on the cross.

"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." - Romans 5:8

"Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." - John 15:13

After Jesus died to pay for our sins, God raised Him from the grave to demonstrate His power over death to all who believe. This is a great victory and assurance to all of God's children.

"'Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?' The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." - 1 Corinthians 15:55-57 "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." - Romans 8:38-39

God's love is a free gift, we neither deserve it nor can we earn it.

"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." - Romans 6:23 "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast." - Ephesians 2:8-9

But God's love doesn't stop there, it is ongoing. After Jesus was raised from the dead, God sent His Holy Spirit to live within all who believe and obey. We continue to experience God's love as we live through Jesus Christ.

"If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever— the Spirit of truth." - John 14:15-17a

"This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him." - 1 John 4:9

"This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers." - 1 John 3:16
